It was awesome to see Alicia being the focus and being so competent and kickass. I love how she's so irritated when she finds the patrol at the postal building. I like how she takes inventory and figure out a make-shift way to make a distraction and how she figures out how to get around the soldiers instead of taking them on head-on when she's out numbered. I like how she's the one who gets things together and that she goes along with Pete's bear-disguise plan only after she's come to the conclusion there is no other viable alternative. Of course Pete would come up with the beard-disguise. *g* The descriptions in this section were excellent. I could really picture what was happening.

Also, I love, that she was one who dealt with the soldiers and that she set it up to inflict maximum damage on them and that Pete was impressed not horrified by her actions.
"Jesus, Alicia," he said, warmly. "How the fuck could you ever think that you don't deserve me?"
The context makes this line even more awesome.

It was excellent to see Alicia and Pete actually talk things out and for Alicia to bring up the issue immediately instead of trying to dance around it once they started talking. The way Pete's actions made her embarrassed and ashamed by her past treatment of him made a lot of sense and I like the way it was obvious she was pushing things beyond what they originally were and didn't really see why Pete would be jealous of her. Pete having to explain exactly why he wished he could have parts of her life felt very right and I like how Alicia has to stop and think about it before she understands where Pete is coming from. Also, I really like how Pete differentiates getting people to fight for their freedom from fighting for him and how he's very uncomfortable with the idea of anyone fighting for him instead of doing it for themselves toward a greater goal; Alicia is so hurt by that because she realizes how Pete doesn't quite understand that she would do that for him because he is Pete not because he's a rebel figurehead-leader.

I really enjoyed the ending when Alicia is finally back safe she sleeps and that her and Mikey pretty much have a Pete-understanding and they're happy to have him with them. Mikey suggesting them act it out was perfect. I like how they're all a little awkward because there are three instead of two in the bed.

I throughly enjoyed this story with all its worldbuilding, action, emotion, and competence. If you're ever inclined I would love to read more about this world and Pete, Alicia, and Mikey.
